Service great food quality pretty poor

Large, too busy and pretentious restaurant. Waiter forgot orders, service was extremely slow and above all the food was awful and expensive at the same time. Do not waste your time or money when close by alternatives are present nearby.

Wow! Had family birthday luncheon there today. I'm a "picky person" and so is my wife. This was a very pleasant surprise as to just how good EVERYTHING was! The waiters were actually professional waiters - courteous, attentive, neat & well dressed [did I just say that? - Funny as how many places the waiters/waitresses looked like they slept in their clothes - sorry] and asked numerous times if everything was satisfactory - which it was & more. 11 of us and everyone said their lunch was very good. So - service way above average, food way above average and prices extremely reasonable. My wife is already thinking of rescheduling an upcoming luncheon to this wonderful & well run restaurant. Whoever the manager is he/she deserves a raise! Lol!... Try this place - you won;t be disappointed.

I wish there were a better score range, I'd really give this place a 4.5. The food was excellent. The only reason I don't give it a 5 is that the dishes were mostly conventional, though there was a little creative flair in each one. Well worth it.

Love the food, delicious lamb chops- these are "lolipopped" so they aren't huge. I can't eat large portions but if you're more hungry, order the offer of 4.The standard arrives with 2. The beet salad with goat cheese was so delicious and they have lovely coffee. Service is really good too. Enjoy a treat, check them out!

Experience at mother's day brunch: The Central Park Bistro has a great atmosphere, really nice decore, and a friendly and attentive staff. Can't really comment on their normal menu and pricing, as they were having a brunch special for mother's day that was fixed price for a 3 course meal.The selections we had we're all quite good, with generous cuts for the prime rib, though the more "breakfast" bacon and eggs was just OK and not up to expected for the price. The prime rib was well worth it, though. I suspect the normal price is more reasonable for that one. Mom had a lobster salad dish that was lovely and delicious. The deserts we had were also quite nice.Overall a good experience and a place to go back to. There is a city lot directly behind the restaurant, though parking in this part of downtown San Mateo can be tight, or need a several block walk. Not actually a bad thing, given it is a nice part of town.

One of best meals we have enjoyed on the peninsula in a long time. Excellent appetisers and perfectly prepared entrees. Great service to boot. Every one would return.

From the starters to the Seafood Linguine every item was delicious.

Food was delicious a little pricey. Atmosphere is wonderful it was great for a small group party in their private room.

Went on Mother's Day with my wife and mother-in-law. The food was absolutely incredible, but the wait staff was very inattentive and pushy - they seemed really pressed to turn tables. Arrived at 1:30 (with reservation) after ordering/receiving food (food came rather quickly and was excellent) waiter only returned to drop off bill and collect plates about 20 minutes later - some dishes were still in progress. We were hurried out the door by 2:05p. Again, food was great - but not a good first impression from their service staff.

Great atmosphere and delicious food!

I've been in the Bay Area for about 2 years and the central park bistro is by far the best restaurant I had the pleasure the spend my time in. Great staff and food unbelievable tasty. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone who loves wonderful food.

Expensive. Service is top notch and let's you relax (that means they a bit slow but very good). Food is great. Wine selection very good. You got time? You got money? Is so, you'll like this place!

Very disappointing. Place wasn't busy, but they seemed very disorganized. We ordered two burgers and a caesar salad with chicken and it took about 20 minutes before anything was delivered. Ironically the two burgers were delivered in the Caesar salad was not . Both burgers were finished before anyone even stopped at our table see how things were and so I asked about my salad . Our waiter just looked at me like I was asking a dumb question or something. Finally the manager came over say that they were having a little bit of a trouble with cooking the chicken... Oh please!

Very good, salmon dinner and Filaminon we're great.

I love this place, with delicious preparations and great service. I look forward to coming back for upscale dinners in the future.

Waiters extremely attentive and while it’s on the more expensive side, the food is delicious! We did the set Mother’s Day menu and it was more than worth it.

My husband and I love this place! The food and friendly staff is consistently excellent! We don't eat here enough to be considered a regular, but we definitely do keep coming back again and again over other places in San Mateo..

Service was good and most of the food was great. The bruschetta was good, but not great. The tables are close so it was hard to carry on a conversation at times as the table next to us was closer to me than some of the people at my table. Would come back here again.

Starting with the atmosphere inside the restaurant I have to say there was plenty of different types of seating that allowed for comfortable conversation while still providing great service. The wine list is quite good and the prices are not ridiculous. The food is outstanding having tried several dishes there now it is consistent as well. Go there and you won't be disappointed.

Great service, great food.got to try octopus as appetizers and rack of lamb is marvelous. Linguini with scallops and rock prawns is out of this world...Even their pizza is tasty too !!! Definitely going back to try other dishes...

They were a little confusing the music and food are a mix of Persian and American but and staff or cook looks and spoke spanish. Very Eclectic place food to expensive but beautifully plated and not sure if it will fly.

This is a traditional venue that has been around a long time. The food is great and service excellent!

Food was very good, great service and wine list is quite extensive. The marinated skirt steak was very good and cooked perfectly.

I particularly like the offerings on the menu. Nice ambience and nice service. The preparation of the food is good but not exceptional.

If you like steak tartar, this is the place. Also affogato for dessert is great. Ask for a drizzle of chocolate syrup and a dollop of whipped cream on top. Yum!

Great variety and selection of wines. We had a "tapas" style dinner, and enjoyed a "louie salad", lobster/crab cakes, garlic tiger shrimp and seaweed wrapped ahi

My favorite location is in San Mateo. There's also location in Burlingame and in San Carlos but it does not feel like a chain it's.Food is wonderful and the service is very good. One of my personal favorites is the Lamb.My wife loves the filet mignon. Go check it out you will not be disappointed.

Came here for a three course mothers day brunch and they completely skipped the first course. We felt rushed the whole time.

Although Valentines' Day and a packed room, Georgio (front of the house), and Jorge (kitchen), hit it out of the park with the Prix Fix menu. My Filet Wellington was cooked exactly medium-rare, (with extraordinary lobster mashed potatoes), and paired with Caymus Quilt Cab, the whole meal was one Central Park's best meals - consistent with their great food and service.

The burger blew my mind! It was huge juicy had 2 patties cheese lettuce pickels onion and house sauce. I opted to add on the bacon but not the avocado and try it more traditional this time tho I would have liked an egg option as well. I also really liked the side of crispy onions(think green bean casserole topping but fresh and homemade). Possibly the bays best burger easily top 3 and great service. This is currently the best place iv been to in the marina area and highly recommend it.

Cool and sophisticated setting. Great service, friendly. Tasty fillet of sole sandwich came with crispy, hot fries. Chicken sandwich was a pleasure. Delicious iced tea made just right for my southern tastes (but without the sugar). Definitely will return.

Mediocre service and food. Price is more on the high side. There are other better restaurant elsewhere.

June 2019 -booked an appt on open table for 2:15, i called 2x to confirm but no ans, got there and it was totally shut down, i knocked on the door, no response. i looked thru a window that wasn't covered by a curtain and there were two guys inside ignoring me, so i knocked on the glass, they looked up and gave the 'you are dirt' stare and ignored me. i knocked again and they looked at each other with the 'i got the last one you deal w this look' and one guy slowly walked over and opened the door, he rudely said it was slow, didn't feel like working so they shut down, ....without closing the reservation system, i think he wanted an apology for disturbing them, --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------July 2019 - i went back for dinner a few mos later, the service was excellent and they even made a special meal for me that was not on the menu, food was great! will go back again for sure. but not at lunch time

4.5 star we enjoyed the food here. Definitely will be back. The salads weren't superb. The main were great. The dessert was excellent.

Have been here twice for business dinners, and both were excellent experiences for all attendees.All the menu items are nicely done, staff is attentive and friendly, and the space is relaxing and enjoyable.
